You have to face many students if you teach Marching Band, with skill differently, you have to make them expert when they play show.
So, the important thing when you teach Marching Band is, make sure your team members can play good. Be a team.

Based on my experience when I teach Marching Band, make some small groups in your band with different skill in small group. So, they will learn how to make solidarity, and you can control easier.

When the time is enough, make small groups to one group and do General Checking.
Make your rehearsal fun but focus surely. Give reward for their achievement, and give punishment to bad thing. But, this punishment is fun.

Do You join Marching Band? especially for Pit Instrument player, there is a question, about warming up for pit instrument. Much people think, more difficult, higher level. That is bad think for me. What warming up for? That have to do to make rilex your arm muscle, make rilex your mentallity. You have to do warming up to avoid your muscle hurt.
Ho to do warming up for pit instrument?
Do it with stabil comfortable tempo. You must to do warming up till you feel warm in your arm muscle.
Double Stops is one of some warming up that good for your technique. Double Stops can make you focus for your power, both of your mallet/stick same high, make your volume higher.
And then, do single stroke warming up.
You have to do warming up from comfortable tempo, and growing up.
If you do warming up with your friends, add your focus to unisono.
